The total extent of water-related ecosystems in Finland is 31,807 square kilometres, representing 10 % of its land area. The total extent of water-related ecosystems is made up of 7.4 % permanent lakes and rivers, 0.7% seasonal lakes and rivers, 2.4 % reservoirs, 0 % inland vegetated wetlands and 0 % mangroves.

With the broad definition of wetlands used by the Ramsar Convention, Finland has --- square kilometres of natural wetlands and --- square kilometres of human made wetlands.

In Finland there are --- large lakes that are monitored, of which 20 % has a high increase in turbidity and 1 % has a high increase in trophic state, compared to the baseline period. Turbidity and trophic state are signs of water pollution and overfertilization.
